Scaled Composites has confirmed that its Stratolaunch Carrier Aircraft, the world’s biggest plane, will begin testing next year. The concept of the plane is a product of combined innovation from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and Burt Rutan, founder of Scaled Composites. The plane is currently under construction at Mojave Air and Spaceport in California, and will eventually have a wingspan of 385 feet.
Initially, the system was intended to just deliver satellites weighing up to about 13,500lbs (6,124 kg) into orbits between 112 miles and 1,243 miles above Earth. However, instead of just satellites, the Stratolaunch airplane could launch a Dream Chaser spaceship carrying a satellite. The Stratolauncher will climb to 30,000 feet and launch a rocket at high altitude, avoiding the huge fuel costs of launching from Earth. The Dream Chaser will then go into orbit and deliver a satellite. The idea is for the Stratolaunch Carrier is to act as a giant air pad in the sky, allowing payloads to reach space faster and at a lower cost than existing technologies.
“It could provide a highly responsive capability with the potential to reach a variety of LEO [low Earth orbit] destinations and return astronauts or payloads to a U.S. runway within 24 hours,” said Chuck Beames, president of Allen’s Vulcan Aerospace. “Stratolaunch’s ability to launch from variable locations will enable satellites and humans to be efficiently inserted into their most optimal orbit at a time of the customer’s choosing.”
The first launch of the space launch vehicle is likely to take place in 2018. There are currently several launch sites under consideration, including ones at the Kennedy Space Center, Wallops Island and Vandenberg AFB. Scaled Composites president Kevin Mickey says the company has so far built “roughly 200,000lbs of composite structure” for the vehicle so far. It will be powered by six 747-class engines during its first flight in 2016 and will weigh 1.2 million pounds.

6 reasons why the 2016 Suzuki Alto Works could be the world's most cheap & cheerful new car you can buy from the showroom in 2016
If you don’t know what a 軽自動車 (aka kei car) is and why most have ‘only’ 64 horsepower, watch ‘Kei to the City’ film by Mightycarmods https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu6h5IoqkoA before you read this.
First, a quick history lesson.
Suzuki in Europe are known for the Swift Sport warm hatch. But they’ve also had quite a portfolio of cheap-and-cheerful cars like the Cappuccino, which rivalled the Honda Beat and the Autozam AZ-1. The Cappuccino featured a turbocharged 3 cylinder 657cc engine, producing 64ps- the most powerful kei car in the early 90s. But more importantly, this engine was also fitted to a FWD or AWD hatchback called the ‘Alto Works’ . Unless you knew about this car on Gran Turismo, it has been overlooked through western car community. This 4th generation (codenamed HA11) was very well-received for its affordable price, and often used for one-make races, hill climbs and rallying. Suzuki axed production by 1998 and for the next decade, there wasn’t really a spiritual successor until 2015; where Suzuki unveiled the ‘Alto Turbo RS’. While the RS appealed many local enthusiasts, the performance and driving involvement was hindered by the only transmission offered- CVT.
Now, the car you see in this photo is called the 2016 Alto Works. Yes, the name is back! I know that you can get great used cars for cheap as chips nowadays but here are 6 reasons why the car in this photo could be the world’s most cheap & cheerful car:
TURBO - because who doesn’t like choo-choo sounds? But in all seriousness, you can easily yield more power (at your own risk). Just think about the power-to-weight ratio potential, or even an engine swap from a bigger car…
MANUAL - obviously more driver satisfaction than the 2015 Alto Turbo RS
WEIGHT - With all the modern safety equipment & technology, the FWD model opted with the manual weighs only 670kg. Thats 30kg lighter than the cappuccino, 50kg less than an Elise and half the weight of a MK7 Golf GTI (which is considered a ‘light car’)
PRICE - It starts from 1.5 million yen (you have the internet to figure out the exchange rate for your currency)
OWNERSHIP COSTS - its a kei car after all, cheap on fuel, cheap on tax, cheap on insurance, cheap on replacement parts and consumables compared to a much bigger, heavier and faster car
RECAROs - this has to be one of the cheapest ways to get a car equipped with Recaro seats. Just let that sink in, Recaros on a kei car…
Now how awesome would it be to fit a LSD, grippy & fatter tyres and gain 100hp out from this engine?
As this is a true Japanese Domestic Model, there are no plans of Suzuki to sell this car to those of you who live outside Japan. Are you butthurt that I wasted your time reading all this?

2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport pricing and specifications
The all-new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has launched in Australia this week, ahead of going on sale to the public from next Monday.
In addition to announcing a high level of safety equipment for the top-specification Exceed model, the entire Mitsubishi Pajero Sport range is bolstered by a five-star ANCAP safety rating, seven airbags and an impressive 3100kg braked towing capacity — the latter placing it ahead of the recently released Ford Everest and Toyota Fortuner.
The model range includes three variants — GLX, GLS and Exceed — with the range starting from $45,000 (before on-road costs) and moving up to $48,500 for the mid-specification GLS and topping out at $52,750 for the flagship Exceed.
The entire range is powered by the Triton ute’s Euro-5 compliant 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel that produces 133kW of power and 430Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission — a Mitsubishi first.
Mitsubishi’s new gearbox helps reduce fuel consumption by 17 per cent compared with the Challenger, with the Pajero Sport claiming 8.0 litres per 100km across the range in comparison to the Challenger’s 9.8L/100km in automatic trim.
The entire range comes with a four-wheel-drive system with four drive modes and a mode selection system. The car predominantly operates in two-wheel-drive mode until the driver selects a four-wheel-drive mode with both a high-range and low-range gearbox option available. While a centre differential lock comes standard, a rear differential lock is not available on the entry level GLX — but is standard on GLS and Exceed models.
Mitsubishi engineers have altered the Triton’s rear suspension setup by removing leaf springs and instead opting for a three-link coil-sprung rear. This move is in line with brands like Ford and Toyota, which have included a coil-sprung rear in their equivalent Everest and Fortuner.
Technology is at the forefront of the Pajero Sport offering with all models featuring DAB+ digital radio, Android Auto and Apple Car Play, making this one of the most technologically advanced infotainment offerings in the segment.
The range is available with six colours and comes with Mitsubishi’s five-year 100,000km new car warranty and servicing sits within 12 monthly or 15,000km intervals.

2016 Yamahas - FIRST LOOK
Yamaha recently gathered the motorcycle press at Tom White’s The Early Years of Motocross Museum to unveil an all-new off-road bike and provide details on several early 2016 models. The good news? There is no price increase on any of the returning models announced at this time. Four highlights:
This was the Big News. Yamaha pulled the sheet off a new two-stroke off-roader based on the YZ250 motocrosser. The YZ250X is designed as a pure, closed-course competition lightweight two-stroke GNCC/woods racer. Features specific to this new model include an 18-inch rear wheel, a sealed O-ring chain, a wide ratio transmission, a narrow expansion chamber, off-road-focused tires and suspension settings, plus a standard side stand and a fuel tank petcock with reserve position. The 2016 Yamaha YZ250X will be available in August, priced at $7,390.
YAMAHA YZ450F
Looking to maintain the top spot in 450cc four-stroke motocross sales, Yamaha has treated the YZ450F to a host of updates. Launch control and new cam profiles are complemented by clutch and shifting refinements, a revised frame shape, and new triple clamps. The new YZ450F also has new engine mounts, revised suspension and a larger 270mm front brake rotor. Bikes arrive this month, priced at $8,590.
YAMAHA FZ-07
Introduced in 2014, the affordable entry-level FZ-07 naked sportbike has proven to be a very hot item in Yamaha’s road lineup. The eager 689cc liquid-cooled parallel twin is mechanically unchanged, but the $6,990 FZ-07 arrives late this summer in new Raven and Matte Silver/Blue color schemes. The latter hue looks very much like that of Yamaha’s flagship YZF-R1. On a related note: The 2016 Yamaha FZ-09 arrives in September, priced at $8,190 and wearing Raven or Blue paint.
STAR BOLT
Did you know the Star Bolt is the third best seller in Yamaha’s streetbike lineup? And in 2016, the Bolt and its urban performance bobber R-Spec sibling look to continue torqueing their path to the top of the cruiser category with new color/graphic options. The base 2016 Star Bolt, in Raven or Deep Blue, remains at $7,990. The R-Spec, in Rapid Red or Stone Grey with matching wheel stripes, costs $8,390. Both Bolts are slated for a July arrival.

New Toyota Corolla Facelift: 2015 Price And Features For Australia
Toyota’s refreshed Corolla hatch is now on sale in Australia, arriving this week with new looks, new technologies, new model levels, improved fuel figures and revised pricing. The entire range has been given a styling makeover, gaining resculpted headlights, a new face with a wing-like chrome grille garnish and a restyled bumper, and updated tail lamps at the rear.
Depending on the model, there is also new LED lighting at both ends, including dual-LED headlights on the rangetopping ZR model.
The ZR, along with the midspec SX, both now also feature a new sports styling kit that adds a sharper look to both models.
The range is again powered by Toyota’s 103kW 1.8 litre four-cylinder petrol engine, although the carmaker says it has improved fuel use by up to 7.6 percent.
Six-speed manual models now list fuel use at 6.7 l/100km - down from 7.1 l/100km - while the CVT 'Multi-Drive' auto improves half a litre to 6.1 l/100km.
That improvement is also thanks in part to revised suspension that includes better initial roll damping, reduced friction and greater straight-line ride comfort.
There have also been revisions to the shock absorbers with MacPherson struts up front, along with upgraded stabiliser bushes and coils.
Watch for TMR’s coming review to see how those changes have improved the Corolla hatch’s handling and comfort.
"Corolla hatch customers now have a clear choice between two compelling new designs: classic or sporty both of which deliver a greater presence and visually broader stance," Toyota Australia’s sales boss Tony Cramb said.
"Buyers will also be attracted by a more stylish interior, undertheskin tweaks that dial up the funtodrive factor and lower fuel consumption that will result in an even lower cost of ownership," he said.
For the new model year, there’s a $300 price increase on Ascent and Ascent Sport, while the ZR model is now $1000 cheaper. SX pricing is unchanged.
FEATURES
The interior of the updated Corolla range has been refreshed for the new model year, bringing a “crisper, higher quality” look to the air-vents, door handles and gearlever surround.Importantly, the Australian range now also features the more stylish and better integrated infotainment display that has appeared in European models since the current generation first appeared in 2012.
In the entry Ascent model, that means a 6.1 inch display with reversing camera, while all other models get a 7.0 inch display.
The SX and ZR models, above the Ascent and Ascent Sport, also get satellite navigation, along with live SUNA traffic updates, Destination Assist, and “Navigate to” voice control.
Also standard in SX and ZR is a 4.2 inch multifunction display in the centre of the instrument cluster, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a sports styling kit.
Upgrading to the topspec ZR adds autolevelling Bi-LED headlights, LED daytime lamps, heated folding mirrors, leather seat trim, heated front seats and more.
